It's been like five months since they've done a new show. I'm pretty thrilled about the return Street Carnage Radio on Viva Radio

Gavin and Derrick told me that Buddy Guy was supposed to cuss like a MoFo and tear it up with dirty jokes about women and what not. I think his publicist kind of put him on hold a bit in 09, but they did get some classic lines from him about driving the tractor and wearing a straw hat like a MutthaF*C$a! Street Carnage Radio Vol. 19 Airs Today on Viva Radio at 10pm!

Here's the playlist for today's show!

Triple C’s “Go”

The Touchables “Respect” (most lackluster version of the song you will ever hear)

Florence and the Machine “Kiss With a Fist”

Cro Mags “Hard Times”

Siouxsie & the Banshees “Hot Chocolate”

Birthday Party “Deep in the Woods”

The Cabbage Patch Kids “On the Back of the Bus”

New Boyz “You’re a Jerk”

Biz Markie “The Energy Blues”

Drake “Best I Ever Had”

Sax a Gogo “Batman”

Geri Halliwell “Bag it Up”

Attention all Reatarded listeners,

If you feel like getting scuffed up and scuzzy by way of the fuzzy, then you are probably anticipating the arrival of the Shattered Records Tour cavalcade on Oct. 1 at Le Poisson Rouge. Jay Reatard wrangled up some of the nation's poppiest and sloppiest acts to celebrate the resurgence of the label that initially served as an outlet for Reatards releases as far back as 2005! And if it seemed impossible to out-cheese Bleecker St., this line-up is apparently rising to the challenge with a dosage of camp hefty enough to bring Jason Vorhees out for the night.

Tasteless it won't be though, for the groups are all particularly cool: you've got Nobunny, Hunx & His Punx, Cheap Time, Lover!, Useless Eaters, Digital Leather, and Box Elders, as well as Mr. Reatard's group serving as the headliner. Seeing as Jay made it through his Me + You session (which featured some of Ted's most collaborative and obnoxious talking points to date) without ripping any of a us a new one, both figuratively and literally, we figured it'd be alright for us to get in on the excitement...

We are offering up TWO PAIRS OF TICKETS to the aforementioned show at LPRouge plus the Shattered Records sampler and tour poster. That is, if you answer the following question:

After which seminal synth-punk group did Jay mostly (and admittedly) model the sound of his old group The Lost Sounds?

Send answers to trivia@viva-radio.com and WIN.

Me + You #58 pertains to more than just a visitation. Rather, this is a component of a larger project engineered to promote and celebrate the release of Simian Mobile Disco's second full length album "Temporary Pleasure". This statement isn't meant to demystify the session or detract from the sexuality of three men crammed into a small, hot sound booth. If anything, joining forces with American Apparel and its radio affiliate is a pretty sexual move in the music marketing world. Just ask Mr. Tellier.

Aware of this, the dance duo compiled a sensual and pulsating playlist spanning about an hour and a half worth of ram jamz. The tunes were interspersed with great conversation bits between the SMD and Tedward, whose kooky mid-western commentary sat in the passenger seat to the selectors' driving dry British wit. All the better too, because after blowin' the kinds of aural loads that are soon to blast countless listeners (we dare you to try and dodge), a good laugh is all that's left to let out.

Honestly, it's humorous to hear about the unleashing of classic Chicago house only to have it go over the heads of thousands of Chicagoans, as well as hearing about straight men dancing to Patrick Cowley's ultra-gay "Menergy".

So, if this is the beginning of what promises to be a worthwhile endeavor for all parties involved, then it seems like a promise that's to be kept with a wink, wank, and thank you for listening to Me + You at 12 PM today, Monday September 28th.

Naked Fridays - a title that only serves as a tease every once in a while. Alas, our Gay Beach Boy Tedward remained civil whilst sitting through the POSSO girls' festive and suggestive set. Gliding through a seratomated set as elegant and thick as their hyper-fashionable leather accessories, the duo's selections ranged from space disco anthems, funky edits, deep house fugues, to club bangers. Then it all ends on a Dylan tune. Proof that vulnerability really does have a place in the club scene.

Tune into today, Fri. September 25th, at 4 PM! Or visit the Naked Fridays archives for anytime listening.

Oh, some further evidence that these two know how to call a hit when they hear one; this set might turn your ears iridescent:

40 Thieves - Don't Turn It Off (Brennan Green Remix)
Lullabies In The Dark - Song For Marie & Elise (Aeroplane Remix)
Canyons - Fire Eyes
J-Boogie's Dubronic Science feat. Jennifer Johns - Together (Crazy P Remix)
Hardrive Deep Inside - Original Mix
Lowbrows Dream In The Desert - Flight Facilities (Red Tailed Hawk Remix)
Par-Tay - Berro E Sombaro
33 Hz - Sentinel Of Love (Eli Escobar Remix)
Shit Robot - Simple Things (Work It Out)(Todd Terje Version)
Gat Decor - Passion (12 inch)
Freemasons feat. Amanda Wilson - Love On My Mind (Club Mix)
Everything But The Girl - Tracey In My Room (Lazy Dog Bootleg Vocal Mix)
Eric Prydz - Aveda, In And Out (Eric Prydz Remix)
Armand Van Helden - The Funk Phenomena
Kennedy - Karate
Woolfy - Oh Missy (Extended Mix-01)
Bob Dylan - It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)

Me Plus You hits #57 with the jagged new wave stylings of Gary War. Another DI-affair, this session was recorded into the mixing console; had one been present during the recording, they wouldn't have heard even half of what would become the finished product. Over a month later and here it is, in all of its completed glory.

Glorious indeed - Gary War as a studio entity consists of one man, toiling away with god knows what kind of gnar-fi equipment to obtain an eery production value that sounds both dirty and sterile. It's this sort of aesthetic that points out his roots in the LA home recording resurgence of the early 00's (peers/touring mates with Ariel Pink, John Maus, Sore Eros) and also has him being lauded/released by the Sacred Bones & Captured Tracks families of NYC.

To have found a way to translate this homegrown studio magick into a captivating live show is a damn feat. To have found a way to translate that live show into an elecrtifying in-studio live performance without amplification is just as big of a deal, if not bigger. It was done and it was done well.

Playing selections from the joint 2009 releases Horribles Parade & Galactic Citizens (an LP on Sacred Bones and EP on Captured Tracks, respectively), the short set exhibited a bit more of a forward-chugging vibe a la Chrome as compared to the sounds found on 2008's meandering New Raytheonport (also highly recommended).

Chrome is probably a comparison that seems like a lightbulb epiphany, but you'll soon find that it's the name on the tip of many peoples' tongues. Instead, I'd rather draw a sweet parallel based on something the man hipped me to a little while back: it's a song called "Frogrammer" by a little known German punk group called Remo Voor (can be found on Killed By Death Vol. 7). Both are energized and assured yet unstable and warbly at the same time. The difference is that Remo Voor didn't come to New York to melt your face off.

Zach Cowie is a contributor that I could only welcome with arms wide open. First off, his CV is pretty realdeal what with having worked at Sub Pop, Rhino, & Drag City as well as having been brought along on tour by Bonnie "Prince" Billy and (most recently) Fleet Foxes just to be able to DJ for the crowds that both of these acts pulled (which were undoubtedly big). Secondly, the fact that he could boast such credentials and not be a dick is fantastic. I find that the misanthropic record store clerk cliché can be applied way too often, so when one with a rap sheet like Zach's is a super cool dude, it is, agayn, fantastic.

I can say this because I happened to meet Zacowie at his part-time day job behind the counter at Territory BBQ + Records in LA, where he doesn't handle the food. Rather, he is a pleasantly knowledgeable and approachable cashier man. Interactive to the max. Considering this was my first California record shopping experience and that I was chapparroned by the perennially tasteful Piper K, one could imagine that for a moment there, the endless universe of music seemed to be put into incredible perspective. Either that or we were on the light speed track to Planet Zounds.

Personal bias aside, Zach has a lot to offer with his show Turquoise Wisdom - a title also bestowed onto him as a DJ name. The DJ name that he uses when spinning at Cinespace, Hollywood Forever cemetery movie screenings, and other select clubs/events. With a nice variety of styles mostly drawing from a psychedelic palette, this show promises to be a thoughtfully maintained platform for beautiful beard-grazed music.

Welcome, Zach Cowie.

It is with great pleasure that we add POSSO the DJ to the Viva roster. No, POSSO is not a robust man of Italian descent but rather the name of an LA-based umbrella organization that pertains to a fashion line, a blog, and a DJ duo consisting of the two gorgeous women behind the concept. Vanessa Giovacchini and Marylouise Pels pooled their creative aspirations together to create a wellspring in which anyone with a sexy tooth would like to take a dip.

Neither a flash in the pan or a sputtering of the hype machine, these two lifelong friends conceived an all-around enticing universe that marries intriguing styles and deep sounds. Having been friends since the age of "3", not long after college the ladies decided that they wanted to realize their aesthetic dreams. After devising an avant-garde approach to dealing in fashion, they chose to bring back spats - an accessory originating from the early 20th century that (depending on the degree of the design) covers the top of the foot, shin, and possibly even the knee. They're made of leather and they look pretty damn sleek.

The POSSO ladies would argue that style informs music and vice versa. It's expression, whereas it can be argued that one form would be more visual and the other visceral. However, not wanting settle for one or the other, they also took the initiative to DJ - at parties, in clubs, or at home, making mixes for you to listen to where ever the hel you please. And now, you can choose to follow their tasteful inclinations on Viva, for they recently landed themselves a show on this here station.

With all of this under their Pyramid belts, these seem to be the sort of achievements that reveal a working relationship based on an appreciation for one another and a trust that would allow left-field ideas to glide gracefully into the center of attention. That makes us pretty happy.

Welcome, POSSO.

Finally something minimal... this isn't the first Me Plus You - at number 56, we're going strong, but without any reason to celebrate this non-descript number (OK, my father is 56 years old, but otherwise I've got nothing). However, this is The XX's first ever U.S. performance, documented by yours trulies.

As the bearers of much hype, my first natural instinct as to how I could get a bearing on this group's status and the context in which they sit outside of what we experienced with them was to refer to Pitchfork. For only they could provide insight in the form of an afterthought on something fated to be popular that has yet to have even been discovered by the average music listener or a well-versed yet out-of-the-loop one at that. I did this because I feel like it's important to know why it was so imperative that we like many others needed to get a piece of the action so early on in their existence. And what I found was pretty much expected - the P4k'ers also didn't really understand what was so vital about The XX, besides the fact that they're making super solid music at the ripe mean age of 20.

And with that statement, we have a reason to celebrate The XX. Forget putting up with an awkward or tired growth period; with their debut, self-titled album, this foursome are delivering the goods right now. With an approach erring on the side of minimalism, there's even less to have to sift through in order to get to the heart of this music, which is full of heart, and soul too for that matter. Silky smooth boy-girl vocal trade-offs over sparse melodies (note, not chords) and a delicate R&B-derived rhythm section have got names like Beyoncé and Young Marble Giants penned on index cards pinned to the drawing board.

NYC can't get enough of it - shortly after their session here at Viva, they proceeded to play 6 shows in 7 days throughout the city. We thought that was illegal! They'll be back in the fall, but until then you'll have to do with your copy of the album and this fantastic edition of Me Plus You. The one where we got to them before they got to you.
