Does anyone
actually know what’s going on these days with
The Avalanches? No. But there is this
mixtape – another from the elusive
Pinchy & Friends, the group (or whatever) that earlier this year released the elegantly simple
Sleepy Bedtime Mix for Young Ones, a mix attributed to the fictional character – a Bukowski character, no less – Henry Chinaski. But then it was rumored that it really came from The Avalanches, the fucking Australian sample kings who haven’t done a record since the now classic
Since I Left You; that’s twelve years ago and counting!
Anyway, this new mix is called
Cool Gays and comes from
Cool Gaze. It is all excellent, an enticing mixture of minimal disco, classy electro and more w/ music from Chic,
Walsh, and "a track that may or may not be The Avalanches". Whatever, I’m a huge fan, whatever, I get excited about it, yeh, but ultimately, this is more than that. It’s a long cool party’s worth or jams worthy of all them feet that’ll be shuffling about the dance floor.
